6 Products You Need to Have Around Your Cabin
A successful cabin trip is one where you don’t find yourself forgetting the important things. At Ormeida Cabins, we’ll help you build the exterior of your custom Texas cabin, but here are some interior essentials you’ll be grateful to have on hand during your trip.
A First Aid Kit
Cabins are usually far from hospitals, and injuries or reactions aren’t always avoidable, so it’s important to have a solid first aid kit handy. Premade first aid kits are a quick and easy choice and can be found at most local drugstores. But if you want to customize your kit more, here are some extra items to consider:
- Aloe Vera Gel
- Hydrocortisone Cream
- Rehydration Salts
- Insect Repellent
Tip: Remember to check the expiration dates of the medications and ointments every season!
A Solar Charger
If you’ve never heard of a solar charger before, think of a solar panel but smaller! A solar charger is a portable device that turns solar energy into electrical energy you can then use for your phone or tablet. Cabins are sometimes located in remote locations that deal with harsh weather, so in the case of a power outage, having a solar charger can be really helpful.
And when the weather is nice and you decide to leave your cabin for some outdoor activities, having a solar charger on hand lets you charge your devices without needing an electrical outlet nearby.
A Tool Kit
Cabins are often located in remote locations, so in the case of a leaky faucet or a loose air vent, it might not be easy to call someone over for repairs. Having a tool kit on hand will help you in the meantime. You can find a regular tool kit at most local hardware stores, but those made for camping might be a great addition. These contain not just tactical tools but also survival tools such as:
- Air filtration Masks
- Water Filtration System
A flashlight is a staple for any cabin, but a tactical flashlight is a more powerful choice. Everyday flashlights often need to be replaced, but tactical flashlights are built to last. They’re usually armor-coated with high-quality aluminum, so even if you’re away from your cabin for most of the year, you can expect a tactical flashlight to look and perform just as well as your last trip.
Not only are tactical flashlights more durable, but they’re also much brighter than your average flashlight. For those living in cabins in off-grid locations, a tactical flashlight will illuminate even the darkest of places and can help put your mind at ease.
While we at Ormeida Cabins strive to build you a cabin with a quality design, if you’re only visiting your cabin during the summer or winter months, there’s a chance unwanted pests like termites, ticks, or roaches could make their way inside while you’re away. Having insecticide and/or insect traps you can quickly apply once you arrive at your cabin (and also once you leave), will help prevent pests from making your cabin their home while you’re away.
Insecticides come in many types, but those made specifically for cabins are a great choice for cabin owners. They’re made to work not just as a pest repellent but also as a fungicide and wood preservative.
Caulk is another efficient item to have on hand. It not only helps keep out pests (there’s even caulk made with insecticide!), but it also helps seal air leaks. So, if you notice your cabin feeling colder than usual during the winter months, having caulk on hand is a quick and easy fix.
